This isn't a simple upscale job. The digital restoration was meticulously handled by Sentai Filmworks and executed under the direct, watchful supervision of the film's original director and writer, Yoshiaki Kawajiri.
The intensive preservation process involved taking a high-resolution 4K scan (3840x2160 pixels) of the original 35mm camera negative. From there, teams performed extensive physical damage repair and rigorous color correction to construct a pristine, archival-quality digital master.
