This belongs in a museum... or right on your comic pull list! In a thrilling surprise straight from the floor of San Diego Comic-Con 2026, Marvel Comics and Lucasfilm have officially announced that Indy is making his triumphant return to the panel pages.
Marking the character's first standalone comic book venture in nearly two decades, Indiana Jones and the Sword of Pandemonium is a brand-new five-issue limited series. The highly anticipated first issue is officially scheduled to whip its way into comic shops on December 9, 2026.
The Creative Heavy-Hitters Behind the Whip
Marvel is pulling out all the stops for this revival by matching the franchise with an absolute powerhouse of creative pedigree:
- Jason Aaron (Writer): No stranger to handling massive Lucasfilm properties, Aaron famously anchored the mega-successful relaunch of Marvel's flagship Star Wars comic line back in 2015.
- Aaron Kuder (Artist): Delivering the kinetic, detailed pencils for the series, Kuder expressed immense excitement about drawing the archaeologist, noting that Indy has always felt like a staple comic book character.
The breathtaking main cover for issue #1 (pictured above) is drawn by industry legend Bryan Hitch, with additional variant covers confirmed from the likes of Alex Ross and a 5-part connecting layout by Kuder himself.
The Plot: A Direct Sequel to Raiders of the Lost Ark
What makes this series an absolute must-read for fans is its placement in the franchise timeline. The Sword of Pandemonium bypasses the later films to establish itself as a direct, immediate sequel to the original 1981 masterpiece, Raiders of the Lost Ark.
According to the official synopsis shared by Marvel:
Set immediately after Raiders of the Lost Ark, the series follows Indy as he tackles a new threat involving Marion Ravenwood and a powerful artifact, promising the return of a major antagonist.
The promise of an "impossible return" of an archenemy already has fan forums buzzing with theories.
A Double Dose of Nostalgia This Fall
This announcement marks a poetic homecoming, as Marvel published the highly beloved original Further Adventures of Indiana Jones comic series back in the 1980s.
If you want to catch up on his vintage paper exploits before the new series drops in December, Marvel is also releasing two massive, premium deluxe hardcover omnibuses collecting those classic 1980s sagas on September 29th.
