"We ain't found shit!" ...Until now, that is. Nearly 40 years after Mel Brooks' masterful 1987 Star Wars parody became an immortal cult classic, Amazon MGM Studios has officially broken the internet by dropping the first teaser poster and a laugh-out-loud synopsis for the highly anticipated sequel: Spaceballs: The New One.
The clever teaser poster instantly targets modern sci-fi blockbusters like Dune: Part Two, featuring two tiny Spaceballs soldiers meticulously dragging a massive afro pick through the sand to form a giant number "2" alongside the glorious tagline, "Combing Soon."
The Official Plot Take Aim at Reboots
Along with the stellar poster layout, Amazon MGM officially unveiled the movie's plot synopsis. As expected, it takes directly aimed, fourth-wall-shattering shots at Disney, legacy sequels, and franchise fatigue:
The synopsis promises a meta-commentary on modern reboots. It follows a new generation, including Prince Starburst and a palace advisor, who must track down original heroes like Lone Starr (Bill Pullman) and Yogurt to save the galaxy from a familiar, unoriginal evil.
Mega-Talent & Legacy Cast Returning
The comedic power behind the camera is immense. The film is directed by Josh Greenbaum and co-written by Josh Gad, Dan Hernandez, and Benji Samit—all moving forward with the full blessing and production backing of the legendary Mel Brooks.
Even more exciting for collectors and fans is the cast list. Original titans Bill Pullman (Lone Starr), Daphne Zuniga (Queen Vespa), George Wyner (Colonel Sandurz), and the 99-year-old Brooks himself are returning. In an absolute miracle of a casting coup, Rick Moranis is officially coming out of acting retirement to reprise his iconic role as Dark Helmet! They will be joined by new franchise additions including Josh Gad, Keke Palmer, Anthony Carrigan, and Lewis Pullman.
Scheduled to launch into theaters at ludicrous speed on April 23, 2027, Spaceballs: The New One is exactly the kind of self-aware, nostalgic comedy the current cinematic landscape needs. If you are attending San Diego Comic-Con, keep your eyes locked on Hall H on Friday, July 24, where the cast and crew will hold a massive presentation panel to drop even more surprises!
