You've Got Me?! Who's Got You?! McFarlane Toys Unveils "Superman (1978)" Elite Edition Clark Kent Figure
For generations of comic book and movie fans, Christopher Reeve remains the definitive cinematic interpretation of the Man of Steel. Richard Donner’s ground-breaking 1978 masterpiece Superman: The Movie set the foundational blueprint for the entire modern superhero genre. While collectors have received excellent standard Superman figures in recent years, one legendary aspect of the film has been sorely missing at a mid-tier retail scale: the mild-mannered Daily Planet reporter himself.
That massive gap is officially being filled. Expanding their premium collector footprint, McFarlane Toys has pulled back the curtain on the stunning DC Multiverse "Superman: The Movie" Clark Kent McFarlane Elite Edition #17 7-Inch Deluxe Action Figure.
Designed as a high-end, accessory-loaded definitive release, this figure perfectly captures Clark's chaotic, fast-paced transition from civilian clothes into Metropolis' greatest protector.
The Ultimate Transformation: Unparalleled Accessory Loadout
The "Elite Edition" moniker from McFarlane Toys represents a massive step up from their traditional $22 baseline figures, prioritizing high-grade fabric textures, metallic details, and complex swappable options.
The engineering on this Clark Kent figure is heavily tailored toward premium storytelling displays. Instead of a static plastic mold, the set features a combination of tailored fabrics and modular swap-out plastic chest attachments to help you seamlessly display him in his full corporate Daily Planet attire, or mid-action sequence.
The massive deluxe package includes:
- Two Interchangeable Head Sculpts: A signature meek Clark Kent portrait with sculpted hair detailing, alongside a separate determined Superman head sculpt.
- Wired Softgoods Fabric Trench Coat: A beautiful, cream-colored overcoat featuring integrated bendable wires to help you style realistic running wrinkles and wind-swept motion on your shelves.
- Modular Shirt Mechanics: Two distinct alternate dress shirt pieces—one buttoned up with a dark tie, and an open shirt attachment capturing the iconic "shirt-rip" pose that reveals the classic red-and-yellow S-shield emblem directly underneath.
- Premium Reporting Gear: A brown faux-leather briefcase with sculpted buckle closures, a Daily Planet newspaper prop, individual frame glasses, and a separate pair of folded glasses.
- Collector Exclusives: A wearable 1:1 scale replica Daily Planet Press Badge with a fabric lanyard, a collectible character art card, a display base, and a special trackable Elite Points Card used to unlock one-of-a-kind prototypes on the official reward network.
Collector's Eye: Why This Figure Is Worth Adding to Your Shelf
My Personal Insight: Historically, getting a truly accurate 1:10 scale Christopher Reeve Clark Kent with proper softgoods has required paying hundreds of dollars for custom third-party companies. McFarlane is completely streamlining the process here.
By treating the jacket and glasses as removable elements and engineering the torso to swaps shirt attachments cleanly, you essentially get three completely separate display pieces in one box: a dapper news reporter, a dynamic phone-booth transformation scene, and a classic standalone 1978 Superman. That level of display flexibility makes the premium price tag entirely justified for serious DC collectors.
